Embodying the Birth Chart

  • Hedge Meadow Herbs 140 South Winsted Street Spring Green, WI, 53588 United States (map)

Join Kayle Karbowski of Other Dust for a workshop exploring how movement, drawing, and play can help us understand the language of astrological birth charts.

We’ll start indoors with a visual introduction to the structure of a birth chart—astrological signs, the planets of our solar system, and houses—before moving outside to build a large-scale version on the ground. Together we’ll draw symbols, mark planetary placements, and explore how the chart relates to the sky above and our place within it. This workshop is designed for beginners and open to all— each participant will receive a folder with a print out of their birth chart and a fun workbook for further exploration.

This class is for you if…You want to learn more about astrology from an embodied perspective, are interested in decoding the mystery of why a birth chart looks the way it does, and want to explore astrology through community art and movement. Astrology novices to experts will all have something to gain from this workshop!

This class is not for you if… This class is a fusion of essential knowledge and encourages an approach to astrology that is ever-evolving and able to be interpreted with confidence on an individual level. Folx will not walk away from this workshop with a complete understanding of how astrology works and birth charts are read- but instead a nuanced foundation to work from (or an expanded approach for intermediate–advanced astrologers!)

About the Teacher:

Kayle Karbowski (she/they) is an artist and facilitator living on the western banks of Lake Michigan currently called Milwaukee, WI. They are the daughter of Jennifer Khurt, a mother, hometender, and bartender of 30+ years. In 2019, she founded Other Dust, a psychospiritual consultancy and technoapothecary focused on developing intuition and reclaiming interdependence in an age of disconnection. A driving force of Kayle’s work is rekindling the relationship between our intellect and intuition. Kayle works between herbalism, animism, mythology, and homesteading in contemporary urban living. Since 2024, she has run a community-based workshop series called Being Other Dust that aims to build folk school-like skills in an urban setting.

Cost: $50

Location:

This 2-hour workshop will be held at Hedge Meadow Herbs located at 140 S Winsted St. in Spring Green, Wisconsin.

What to Expect/Bring:

Herbal tea will be provided but please bring whatever other drinks or snacks you need to take care of yourself. Please wear clothes you are comfortable getting on the ground and doing some light movement in. Weather permitting, we’ll be outside for part of this class so please plan accordingly.

Accessibility:

Most of the class will be seated in a chair, and we will provide some seated movement opportunities for folx who prefer that to being on the ground.

While we’ll be working from any existing knowledge we share collectively and individually about the stars, planets, signs, and archetypes, we love and respect all zodiac signs! Please be considerate of any pre-existing judgement you may have about specific signs due to past experiences.

This workshop may use a masculine/feminine dichotomy at times, but we will spend a portion of class dedicated to expanding this dichotomy beyond physical attributes, and even queering our understanding of the masculine & feminine.

This class will be taught from the perspective of western astrology as this is the lineage of the instructor. Vedic, Chinese, and other astrological frameworks are excitedly welcomed, but not the expertise of the instructor.

Covid/Illness Safety:

Masks are not required but always encouraged and appreciated. Please use common sense and do not attend class if you’re sick (day-of refunds available for illness only). You must wear a mask if someone in your household is sick, or if you know you’ve been exposed to an infectious pathogen. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding around this.

Cancellation/Refund Policy:

We reserve the right to cancel class at any point due to a lack of interest. If this is the case, anyone who has signed up will receive a full refund.

If you sign up for class but can no longer attend, please let us know at least 48 hours prior to class for a full refund. If you let us know the day prior to class, you will receive a 50% refund. Sorry, but if you cancel the day of class you will not receive a refund (unless you’re cancelling because of illness).
